High-Performance Computing
in Engineering

About

Scientific Computing has undergone drastic changes in the last decade due to disruptive technologies introduced in high-performance computing. The course will cover the basics of scientific computing and introduce the advances in the HPC.

The lectures will enable the participants to learn the fundamental concepts of HPC and its applications in solving a wide range of engineering problems. The theory covered in lectures will be followed by lab experiments on HPC system. These hands on experiments will allow the participants to grasp the concept covered in class better through small programming tasks.

The school is targeted towards graduate students, post-doctoral students, young lecturers, and faculty members working or planning to work in the area of HPC.

The participants should have basic knowledge of writing programs in C, Python.

The course will cover the following.

  1. Introduction to High-Performance Computing
  2. Hands-on parallel programming (OpenMP, MPI, Machine learning and GPU)
  3. Parallel-programming using python
  4. Applications of HPC in Science and Engineering: case studies
  5. Overview of data mining using HPC

The workshop is organized by inter-departmental collaboration, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. All the lectures/workshops of this course will be conducted in New Core Bulding.

The nearest station is Kanpur Central which is 15 km away from the campus. From station, Cars, Auto-ricksaws are availble round the clock to IITK Campus. Approx. auto fare ₹ 260.

How To reach IIT Kanpur by Air :

The nearest airport is Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport, Lucknow, which is 90km away from the campus. Taxi will take around two hours to reach campus. Approx taxi fare ₹ 2300.
