Semi Active Tags
Semi-Active tag relies on the reader to supply its power for broadcasting. Because these tags contain more hardware than passive RFID tags, they are more expensive.A semi-active tag is an active tag that remains dormant until it receives a signal from the reader to wake up. The tag can then use its battery to communicate with the reader. Like active tags, semi-active tags can communicate over a longer distance than passive tags. Their main advantage relative to active tags is that they have a longer battery life. The waking process, however, sometimes causes an unacceptable time delay when tags pass readers very quickly or when many tags need to be read within a very short period of time.
Active Tags

1x1 Asset Tag

A tag is a main component of RFID system. A typical RFID tag consists of a microchip attached to a radio antenna mounted on a substrate. The chip can store as much as 2 kilobytes of data. The market for RFID tags includes numerous different types of tags, which differ greatly in their cost, size, performance, and security mechanisms.
ActiveTags
  • It can be read at distances of one hundred feet or more, greatly improving the utility of the device
  • It may have other sensors that can use electricity for power.
PassiveTags
  • The tag functions without a battery; these tags have a useful life of twenty years or more.
  • The tag is typically much less expensive to manufacture
  • The tag is much smaller (some tags are the size of a grain of rice).
